Although we are only a few weeks into Spring Training, injuries have made an extremely early visit the Minnesota Twins. If you follow any professional sports team from Minnesota, you would know that these teams just might have the worst Injury luck in the entire world of sports. Every season, no matter the sport, that injury ALWAYS comes. However it does not happen to just a random player, who although is important, the team can normally compete without. No. Almost every season, in almost every league, a Minnesota superstar gets injured at some point in the regular season. However this time it was worse. The injuries could not wait to attack until the regular season but they hit the team before they had even played a single spring training game in Fort Meyers Florida. The superstar? Ace pitcher, Pablo Lopez who has been by far the Twins best pitcher over the last few years.

Lopez, since his time with the Twins has: put up a record of 31-22, given up less than 200 runs, struck out over 500 batters and had only walked 109. His strikeout to walk rate combined with his ability to limit the amount of runs scored highlights how talented Pablo actually is. But now the Twins will have to figure out a way to compete if that's even an option without him because he is set to miss the entire 2026 MLB Season opening a spot in the rotation for some of Minnesota's skillful prospects. Finally, you might be wondering how the injury came to be. Lopez, who was just throwing in one of their first live batting practices pulled himself out of the practice due to pain in his elbow. He quickly then got a MRI and it sadly showed that it was a significant tear in his UCL in his right elbow, which would end up needing Tommy John surgery to repair it, which would end his season before it even really began. While the season start off to a bad note after an embarrassing season in 2025 the Twins were opportunistic on the year ahead after firing Rocco Baldelli and hiring Derek Shelton however they were not ready for more injuries and more bad news that would come in the coming days.
