FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 5 YEARS THE TWINS SWEEP THE TIGERS!

Following a disappointing start to the season, the Minnesota Twins may have started to figure some things out. The Minnesota Twins began the 2026 MLB season on a 6-game road trip, which had them play two series against two talented teams: the Baltimore Orioles and the Kansas City Royals. While they only won two of those six games, Twins fans were not at all surprised. I had even predicted that they would end up in the fifth and final spot of the AL Central coming into this new season. However, things have changed in Minnesota after the Twins shockingly swept the Detroit Tigers in a four-game series this week.

Coming off a playoff run that ended in a tight ALDS series with the Seattle Mariners, the Tigers came into the season with an incredible amount of hype. Leading their team is the two-time Cy Young winner, lefty Tarik Skubal. Skubal mixes his high velocity with smart decision-making as well as his incredible swing-and-miss stuff, which ultimately makes him an amazing pitcher, if not the best in the world. While Detroit relies on their star pitcher, that is not the only reason the Tigers are one of the most feared teams in the entire league. Mostly because their offense is just as talented the Tigers' mix of standout pitching and elite offense makes the opposing team work even harder to than normal to get the job done. One example is that last season the Tigers had two 30+ home run hitters in veteran outfielder Riley Green and 1st baseman Spencer Torkelson. Even if one of these crucial aspects of the game doesn't perform well in every match, it's highly likely that another will.

As I mentioned above, the Twins came into this week with a extremely tough schedule ahead of them. They had to play this Tigers team four times as well as still play the Toronto Blue Jays who were last years AL champions. Also to add to this difficult schedule the Twin had to compete against Skubal Tuesday night. Surprisingly the Twins took care of business due to incredible performances from Taj Bradley, Royce Lewis, Mick Abel and many more. They battled each game shocking the world by winning all 4 by scores of 7-3, 4-2 (vs Skubal), 8-6 and 3-1. Royce Lewis over the course of the four games hit .333 with 4 RBI's as well as having a .866 OPS proving that he is heating up every single game. The Twins two young pitchers also made a big splash in this series with Taj throwing over 100 pitches in 6.1 innings, striking out 10 batters and only giving up 1 run. For those who don't know the Twins acquired Bradley last summer at the trade deadline where they dealt Griffin Jax over to the Tampa Bay Rays in return for Taj. Finally putting up almost identical numbers, this time in the series finale. Mick Able, who was also acquired at the trade deadline last season, pitched 6 scoreless innings in which he struck out 6 batters. Both Bradley and Able showcased talent all Twins fans should be excited about, leading the team to be over .500 for the first time all season. Hunt the Good!
